We have been very fortunate to have a member of the church able, not only to ensure that the church has been beautifully decorated on a weekly basis, but on many occasions, providing the floral arrangements herself.
At Christmas, Easter and Autumn, she always managed to gather a band of helpers so that we enjoyed a feast of colour in the church underlining the importance of these occasions. Every single week we enjoy a splash of colour at the pulpit and these flowers are then delivered to members of the congregation after the service reminding them of our thoughts and prayers. I am of course speaking of Yvonne McConnell who sadly has found it increasingly difficult recently to fulfil the task.
I have taken over her duties and although I know I cannot rise to her standards, I will do my best to see that you continue to have a floral greeting each week.
There is a list in the Foyer of volunteers I will try to phone each one with a reminder the week before their turn. There are some gaps so if anyone feels able to fill a gap, please let me know. In addition, I would be extremely grateful if anyone can give me a hand to wrap up the flowers for delivery at the end of the service sometimes. Some people may feel that floral arrangements are beyond them, but it is fine to buy some flowers and pop them in a vase. The flowers will speak for themselves and we will still enjoy them.
Yvonne keeps the key to the church so it will continue to be possible to have access to the church to arrange the flowers at a time suitable to yourselves. I have always enjoyed Yvonne’s flower arrangements, but it is only now that I realise how much thought and effort went into her total contribution. She also maintained the troughs outside which provide such a welcome to visitors.
We owe her an immense debt of gratitude and on behalf of you all, I send her our love and many many thanks.
